URUGUAY ENHANCES PERFORMANCE OF ITS GROUND COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE WITH FREQUENTIS SMARTMESSENGER

The Directorate National of Civil Aviation in Uruguay (DINACIA) has selected Frequentis California Inc. to upgrade its ATS Message Handling System (AMHS) to enhance its data exchange capabilities. The Frequentis smartMessenger system, operational since 1999, has  been regularly updated, in line with aviation requirements; the latest upgrade will include the ability for digital data exchange and the support of the latest ICAO weather data format (IWXXM) as mandated by ICAO.

Uruguay plays an important role for aviation in Latin America, being a key hub for the region. Carrasco International, the country's largest airport, has been cited as one of the most efficient and traveller-friendly airports in this region. With the AMHS upgrade project, DINACIA is enhancing its ground communication infrastructure, allowing for improved data exchange.

PROJECT FALKE: SUCCESSFUL INTERCEPTION OF ILLEGALLY FLYING DRONES AT HAMBURG AIRPORT (VIDEO)

On 22 September 2021, the interception of a non-cooperative drone was successfully demonstrated for the first time in a field test at Hamburg Airport as part of the FALKE project, funded by the BMVI (Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure) - for interesting insights, watch the VIDEO.

FALKE provides an automated and standardised solution that can also be used at other German airports, considering all areas of competence and responsibility. In addition to the Frequentis Group, the German Federal Police, DFS, Lufthansa, Hamburg Airport, the Hensoldt Group, and the Professorship for Electrical Measurement Technology at the Helmut Schmidt University (HSU) Hamburg are involved in the project.

This video documents the successful field test at Hamburg Airport in September 2021.

Project FALKE: successful “dogfight” at Hamburg Airport

On 22 September, the interception of a non-cooperative drone was successfully demonstrated for the first time in a field test at Hamburg Airport as part of the FALKE project, funded by the BMVI (Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure).

The unauthorised intrusion of drones or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) into control zones means an increasing threat to the operation of commercial airports. The responsible parties at the airport are faced with the challenge of quickly detecting and reacting to the illegal entry of these small and agile flying objects in order to minimise any impact to airport operations.

Using the example of Hamburg Airport, the consortium partners of the “FALKE” project are developing and demonstrating their overall technical and organisational concept for the defence against illegally operating drones.
